Hong Kong brings home SIGNIS Asia Award

HONG KONG (SE): A 15-minute video produced by the Hong Kong Diocesan Audio Visual Centre on the ability of young, down-and-out people to really make something of themselves if given the right opportunities in life, brought home the SIGNIS Asia Media Award for 2011, at the annual SIGNIS Asia Assembly held at Dhulikhel Lodge Resort near Kathmandu, Nepal, from October 17 to 21.

Eight inducted into the Order of Malta

HONG KONG (SE): Eight postulants from Hong Kong were inducted as members of the international Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta at a Mass celebrated by Father Michael Yeung Ming-cheung in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on October 17, before the president of the Australian chapter, Tony Macken.

ASSISI (CNS/Agencies): A common thread of unease ran through the Prayer for Peace encounter in Assisi on October 27.
It was described as an uneasy sense that the world is facing not only conflict and war, but a much broader crisis affecting social and cultural life in every country of the world.
Environmental damage, the rich-poor divide, erosion of cultural traditions, terrorism and new threats to society’s weakest members were cited as increasingly worrisome developments.
