BEIJING (AsiaNews) Beijing has come up with new procedures for the Church in the choosing of bishops, but it is also planning changes, for the first time since its founding in Shanghai in 1921, to the internal rules governing management and supervision of the Communist Party of China.

Several analysts view this as an attempt to save the party from a profound legitimisation crisis.

HONG KONG (SE): “The Holy See delegation restates its call for negotiations and for putting an end to violence,” Archbishop Silvano Tomasi told the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, Switzerland, on May 29. 

He explained that the continuation of the armed conflict in Syria risks intensifying regional and global conflicts and could see the melt down of the whole country.
