WORLD DAY OF PEACE According to an announcement made by the Holy See a short while ago, John Paul II has changed the main theme of the 37th World Day of Peace, 1 January 2004, from “International Law, a Path to Peace” (announced in the Sunday Examiner on 21 December 2003, p. 2) to “An Ever Timely Commitment: Teaching Peace”. In his Message for this occasion, the Holy Father synthesises the World Day of Peace Messages delivered by himself over the past twenty-five years. He reaffirms that peace is possible, but true peace must be built on the four pillars of truth, justice, love and freedom. He also highlights international law as a primary means for pursuing peace.
