Maryknoll centenarian goes to eternal rest

Hong Kong  (SE): Sister Agnes McKeirnan (Rose Eileen) died peacefully at the Maryknoll Sisters Centre in New York on September 5. She was just 25 days short of her 101st birthday.

Born on 11 October 1910 to Rose and Joseph McKeirnan in Pomeroy, Washington, the United States of America (US), Sister McKeirnan had five brothers and three sisters. One brother, Father Michael McKeirnan, was a Maryknoll priest, who also worked in Hong Kong during his life time.

Sister McKeirnan entered Maryknoll in 1940 and was assigned to the Central Pacific Region where she made her final profession in 1946.  In 1964, she was assigned to Hong Kong where, for the next 30 years, she taught at the Maryknoll Sisters School and the Maryknoll Convent School.

Sister McKeirnan retired in 1994 and returned to the US. Due to failing health, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters Residential Care in 2000, where she lived until her death.

The liturgy of the resurrection was celebrated for Sister McKeirnan at the Maryknoll Sisters Centre on the September 9. We ask for your prayers and remembrance for her and her family at this time.
