Pilgrimage to St. Francis Xavier’s resting place

JIANGMEN (SE): A pilgrimage organised by parishioners from the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Jiangmen, Guangdong, visited the Sanctuary of the Island in Shangchuan on July 13, where St. Francis Xavier died in 1552.

Travelling under the theme, Pray for the Church in China and for the universal Church so that the mission of evangelisation in the world and China may take its course and strengthen faith—especially in the Year of Faith, the group learned about the life and work of the great Jesuit missionary in Asia, who is regarded as the patron saint of mission.

Fides reported that Father Don Huang, who organised and accompanied the pilgrimage, encouraged people in these words, “We must pray a lot, not only for ourselves, but for the Church in China so that it converts to Our Lord as soon as possible.”

Recalling the example of St. Francis Xavier, Father Huang encouraged people to “follow in the footsteps of St. Francis Xavier by being living witnesses to the Lord.”
