Philippine typhoon appeal

HONG KONG (SE) : Caritas took up a collection at all Masses in parishes around the diocese of Hong Kong on December 17 for the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan, which ravished the Eastern Visayas area of The Philippines on November 8.

The money will be sent to Caritas Philippines for use in providing immediate aid and beginning the long haul challenge of recovery for the approximately 12 million people estimated to have been affected and the hundreds of thousands who have lost everything.

Caritas is well placed for this work, as it is a local structure that exists in every diocese of the country. Consequently, it has a good understanding of the local area, people and best way of approaching problems.

Since it already has staff in place, its set up time for response is short and in many cases, immediate.

The appeal is still open and donations can be made to Caritas, either by cheque addressed to Caritas-Hong Kong and endorsed to Philippines Super Typhoon Victims, or by direct deposit to the Caritas account at ICBC (Asia) Bank, A/C No: 721-010-00160-6.

If you need a receipt indicate your name on the back of the cheque or send details and  bank slip to the Caritas office at: –

Room 407, Caritas House, 2 Caine Road, Central.
