Catholic Church Lenten Campaign 2014

Lent is approaching and the Catholic Church in Hong Kong will again run its annual Lenten Campaign during the 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter, beginning on March 5 and ending on April 19.

The theme for this year’s campaign is Faith comes to perfection with Love (愛是信的圓滿). A deacon, Reverend Andrew Au, the chairperson of the Catholic Church Lenten Campaign Organising Committee, is appealing to parishes, Catholic schools, Catholic institutions and communities to participate in the campaign through prayer, reflection and sacrifice.

The Lenten Campaign Organising Committee will begin distributing materials to parishes on February 19, including Catholic institutions and schools.

The package includes copies of the pope’s Lenten Message 2014, Cardinal Tong’s Lenten Pastoral Letter and other Lenten Campaign promotional materials.

To promote the spirit of Lent among the younger generation, Lenten CDs (which include: prayers, hymns and suggestions for charitable activities) and Lenten Paschal Lambs have been produced for children in parish Sunday Schools, as well as primary and secondary schools.

In addition, a Lenten Charitable Award scheme is being introduced to promote the participation of both parents and children. The activities include drawing, designing short SMS messages, writing short articles and organising hunger meals, among other things.

Those with a Paschal Lamb are reminded to bring it, together with their Lenten sacrifice, to their parish on Palm Sunday for the support of the needy.

In addition, the Organising Committee will hold a briefing session on February 22 (Saturday) at 2.30 pm at the Rosary Church Hall, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon, for Sunday School teachers and school pastoral assistants to give a richer understanding to them of the meaning of Lent, as well as demonstrate the use of the CDs and other relevant Lenten promotional material.

The guest speaker will be Father Benedict Lam. Registration can be made through the Lenten website.

To facilitate people in obtaining information on the Lenten Campaign and promotional materials, they will be posted on the website:, for free retrieval.

Promotional materials, like exhibition boards produced in previous years, can be collected from Caritas Social Centres upon request.

All contributions should be sent to the Catholic Church Lenten Campaign, Room 407, Caritas House,
2 Caine Road, Hong Kong, or deposited at any branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia) Limited: Account No: 701-010-034849.
