Fellowship and sharing the faith

Hong Kong (SE): Responding to the mandate from Jesus to “go into the entire world and preach the gospel to the whole creation” and inspired by the evangelisation activities of Hong Kong Central Council of Catholic Laity, parishioners of St. Benedict parish in Shatin, were invited to share their faith by bringing non-Catholic friends or relatives to a gathering on May 15—attended by more than 200 people.

The activity included a dinner and fellowship where Catholics and non-Catholics sat together as “one flock” (John 10:16). The meal was followed by the screening of a movie depicting the present day problems in the relationships between parents and children.

Participants then broke up in to small groups to share their thoughts and encourage each other to examine their own lives and evaluate their relationships with family members. Many said that they found the sharing as well as the question and answer session meaningful.

The evening concluded with prayers of intercession and an exchange of the sign of peace.

The Second Vatican Council’s Decree on the Missionary Activity of the Church teaches: “The whole Church is missionary and the work of evangelisation is a basic duty of the People of God” (Ad Gentes 35).
