Caritas Bazaar season opens at Victoria Park
Hong Kong (SE): Around 18,000 visitors packed into Victoria Park, Causeway Bay, as Caritas-Hong Kong kicked off its annual season of charity bazaars on November 1.
John Cardinal Tong Hon, the bishop of Hong Kong, and Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-chueng were joined at the ribbon-cutting ceremony by the chief secretary for administration in Hong Kong, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, and deputy chief executive of ICBC (Asia), Leung Ming-hym.
A second bazaar was held concurrently in Tuen Mun, the New Territories.
The cardinal remarked that the bazaars are a good way to bring good people from all walks of life together to show compassion for the needy, to foster generational harmony and promote a spirit of cooperation. He thanked those who put mercy into action and give hope to the world.
Lam praised Caritas for keeping its multifaceted services up to date and for its contribution to building a caring community.
Referencing the parable of the good Samaritan, she appealed to the public to help their neighbour whenever and wherever needed, saying that the government is unremitting in its efforts to help the poor and the needy.

There were over 110 stalls representing parishes and Church organisations at the event in Victoria Park.
