Ordinations in China

BEIJING (SE): Two communities that are rich in vocations welcomed new workers to the vineyard of the Lord at the end of Mission Month, October.

Fides reported that four deacons were ordained priests for the diocese of Sanyuan in Shaanxi province on October 28, the feast of the apostles, Simon and Jude.

At the ordination, Bishop Joseph Han Yingjin said, “They have responded to the call of Jesus to share his pastoral and missionary mission in the service of the Church.”

More than 3,000 people attended the solemn ordination ceremony, at which 90 priests concelebrated.

Hundreds of sisters from the congregations of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, the Child Jesus and Dominicans also attended.

On the same day, two deacons were ordained for the diocese of Handan in Hebei. In his homily, the vicar of the diocese particularly thanked the families of the new deacons for “taking care of the vocation and the Christian faith of their children. Despite the many temptations and challenges that today’s society poses to families and you.”
