Aquino meets pope

VATICAN (SE) : The president of The Philippines, Noynoy Aquino, met in private audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican on December 4 for what diplomatic protocol described as a cordial discussion.

Subsequent to the meeting with the pope, Aquino then had discussions with the Vatican secretary of state, Pietro Cardinal Parolin, who was accompanied by the undersecretary for relations with states, Monsignor Antoine Camilleri, where talk centred on the peace process in Mindanao.

A press release from the Vatican Information Service said that a sincere hope was expressed that the commitment made by the parties involved in the peace process would produce a stable and lasting peace in the war-torn southern island of The Philippines.

The contribution that the Catholic Church is making and may make in the future to society in the Pearl of the Orient Seas was also on the discussion list, which was followed by an exchange of opinions on the United Nations Conference of Parties on Climate Change being held in Paris, France.
