Face with a familiar sound nets Caritas million peso Christmas

PASAY CITY (Agencies): A one million peso ($165,000) bonanza came the way of Caritas Philippines when a face with a familiar sound took out the first prize of two million pesos ($330.000) in the Your Face Sounds Familiar talent quest in Pasay City on December 13.

Singer-actor, Denise Laurel, who donated half of her prize money to Caritas Manila, told Radyo Veritas that Caritas is her favourite social action group.

The director of Caritas Manila, Father Anton Pascual, thanked the young artist for choosing Caritas, saying that her donation will go a long way in subsidising the studies of up to 5,000 students under its Youth Education Programme.

Father Pascual said he plans to meet with Laurel to extend his gratitude and invite her as guest on one of the station’s programmes.

Laurel took off Broadway star, Lea Salonga, singing Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal, from the movie of the same name. A judge at the contest, Jed Madela, said, “You sounded like her, you looked like her, you even projected like her.”

Madela added she portrayed the likeness even down to the dimple in her right cheek. The 28-year old artist and mother is the granddaughter of former vice president, Salvador Laurel, and great granddaughter of former president, José Laurel. She came out on top over four other familiar sounding faces in the fifth round of the contest.
