Ordinations in Seoul

SEOUL (SE): The archdiocese of Seoul in South Korea ordained 20 deacons as priests on February 5.

Andrew Cardinal Yeom Soo-jung told Fides that given the large numbers of people expected to attend, the ceremony was held in the hall at Olympic Park.

Seoul ordains around 30 priests on average each year and over the past 20 years, there have always been more than 20.

The ordination Mass took its theme from Cardinal Yeom’s pastoral letter entitled, Teaching of the Church: the compass of the new evangelisation, while the verse reference chosen was How beautiful is your love (The Song of Songs 4:10).

On the previous day, the cardinal ordained 30 deacons, including one from the Missionary Society of St. Columban. They will all take up pastoral appointments in Seoul.

The two events had media coverage, thanks to the Pyeonghwa Broadcasting Corporation, a radio and television station owned by the archdiocese.
