Paris Foreign Mission boss to be a bishop

PARIS (AsiaNews): The superior general of the Paris Foreign Mission Society, Father Georges Colomb, was appointed bishop of La Rochelle, France, on March 9.

He is scheduled to be ordained on May 5.

Born on 15 June 1953 in Saint-Anthème, Father Colomb studied economics and worked as a post office inspector in Lyon and Nanterre. Ordained a priest in 1987 for the diocese of Clermont, he later joined the mission society and worked in China, where he taught French language and culture at universities, prior to being elected superior general in 2010.

He has always believed that a Church that does not have an open outlook and outreach to other parts of the world will be stifled and die gradually due to its own lack of imagination and care for the world.
