A faith enriching encounter

The Hong Kong Filipino Catholic Biblical Pastoral Ministry organised a Bible Awareness Programme at Holy Family parish, Choi Hung, on February 28. The afternoon event ran under the theme, The Word of God in the life and mission of the Church.

Joyful songs, as well as praise and worship were followed by the bible enthronement to kick off the afternoon activity. Father James Areechira, the spiritual director of the group, gave the welcoming address.

Twelve communities took part in the Encounter, including 10 in-house groups from Holy Family and two from St. Francis in Ma On Shan and St. Joseph in Fanling.

Participants had to answer questions in various sessions featuring multiple choice, true or false, identification and the lives of saints.

The encounter was more about an examination of knowledge and understanding of scriptures and liturgy. St. Joseph’s Church English-speaking Community, Fanling, got the highest score with 24 out of 50 correct answers. While the Holy Family Filipino Catholic Group managed 21 points and the Christ our Hope and Life Prayer Group garnered 20 points.

The programme proved to be a good learning tool about liturgical, scripture and basic catechism.

During the event, as well as in the preparation beforehand, there is a good opportunity to deepen our knowledge about the scriptures, as well as learn more about the historical background, which is quite necessary when we do service of the Lord in his vineyard.
