Arabic edition of pope’s book

VATICAN (CWNews.com): An Arabic-language edition of Light of the World, the book-length interview with Pope Benedict XVI published last year, went on sale on December 5.

It was launched in Beirut at the Arabic Book Fair. The book, which was first launched last year, is the result of extensive interviews with German journalist, Peter Seewald, who posed 90 questions to the pope.

Although reports on the Arabic edition put out by ANSA concentrate on the controversy aroused by a passage in the book where the pope says there may be rare circumstances where condoms may be used, the larger story is remarkable, a Vatican spokesperson says.

Light of the World is now in its 28th edition.

Vatican stamp for Cardinal Newman

VATICAN (CWNews.com): The Vatican has issued a new series of stamps commemorating the apostolic trips of Pope Benedict XVI in 2010, including one that features the image of Blessed John Henry Newman.

The stamp, which also shows Westminster Abbey and a Union Jack, commemorates the pope’s trip to Great Britain in September, during which he presided at the beatification of the great English convert and theologian.

The new stamps will be sold only in sets to stamp collectors and visitors to the Vatican.
