Catechism programme going strong 25 years on

Hong Kong (SE): In 1989 the good sisters of St Mary’s Canossian School were no longer able to provide catechism lessons to the English-speaking children of Rosary parish. In response, Maryknoll Father James Huvane, then-assistant parish priest, together with Deirdre Chaves, a long-time parishioner, started the Church Children’s Catholic Instruction Programme. Classes began on 1 September 1990 and in 2015, the programme marked its 25th anniversary.

This year, 14 children will make their first communion while 14 young people will receive the sacrament of confirmation (four of whom will also make their first communion) at a Mass to be celebrated at 10.00am on May 28 at Rosary Church.

This is an open invitation to all past students and catechists to come for the Mass and the celebration in the church hall after that.
