Death Notice

HONG KONG (SE): Franciscan Father Howard Stunek passed away in Wisconsin, the United States of America (US), on April 5 at the age of 91.

Father Stunek was a co-founder of St. Bonaventure College and High School in Wong Tai Sin. Born in the US in 1925, he joined the Franciscans in 1951. He was ordained a priest in 1957 and came to Hong Kong in 1968.

Together with Father Joachim Daleiden, Father Stunek founded St. Bonaventure College and High School in 1970 and became its first principal. He also served as the president of the Association of Hong Kong Principals of Secondary Schools and as an educational consultant to the Hong Kong Department of Education.

He returned to the US in 1981 after nurturing many young people in Hong Kong and contributed richly to Church life for over a decade. 

The Franciscan community in Hong Kong, St. Bonaventure College and High School and its alumni association will hold a memorial prayer service for Father Stunek at 5.00pm on June 5 at St. Bonaventure parish, Tse Wan Shan, Kowloon.
