First Asian rector for Angelicum in Rome

MANILA (Agencies): Father Rolando de la Rosa has become the first Asian to be appointed rector of a pontifical university in Rome.

The Filipino Dominican will take on the top job at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, also known as the Angelicum.

Father Dela Rosa will serve a four-year term from the beginning of the next academic year, September 1, through to 2020.

He has a rich background in education and was formerly the rector of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila for a combined total of 13 years, from 1990 to 1998 and from 2007 to 2012.

CBCP News reported that his leadership gave birth to the Network of Dominican Schools which he founded in 1995, more popularly known as DOMNET, which continues to organise various projects.

He was also the chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education during the administration of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The priest has an impressive academic record that speaks well of his background as an educator and a leader.

The highly educated Father Dela Rosa also has a broad experience in the administration of education institutes.
