La Salle College hosts David Beckham

HONG KONG (SE): David Beckham was the guest of honour at La Salle College in Kowloon on June 27 and lent his expert hand and feet to a soccer clinic led by guest coach, Tom Byer, the Adidas Greater China Grassroots Football Ambassador.

The headmaster of the school, Brother Steve Hogan, described Beckham as a humble, quiet man.

“I am informed his family and his own four children are dear to him, hence he tries his best to limit exposures as a celebrity, and rather be on the field playing with the round ball and young passionate children,” Brother Steve said.

Over 20 members of the La Salle College current year’s boys’ football C grade champions’ team took part in the training.

Brother Steve said that Adidas Hong Kong contacted La Salle College to see if it could play host to the high profile guest.

The headmaster said that it was not a difficult question to answer, as the college community, the sports master, physical education department and football coach were all delighted to host “the Honourable David Beckham obe, the United Kingdom UNICEF ambassador with a foundation to help children in danger, something our Lasallian mission worldwide seeks to advocate.”

The college encouraged its distinguished guest in his mission, particularly in the work that he is doing through the David Beckham UNICEF Fund.
