Holy Family in Choi Hung

HONG KONG (SE): The Christ the King community in Holy Family parish, Choi Hung, celebrated its ninth anniversary with a musical drama competition on November 20. This year’s celebration carried the theme The life of the Holy Family in our everyday life.

Entering the parish hall where the celebration took place felt like travelling back to the time of the Holy Family, as most of those in the hall were wearing costumes from the time of Jesus.

The event opened with a prayer led by the coordinator, Tina Damuggo, followed by a welcome from the assistant parish priest, Father Johnson Dhos.

Nine groups showcased their acting talent in various depictions of the Holy Family from the Annunciation to the growing years of Jesus. Some included reflection of the current situation of many families in society, presenting youngsters involved in gambling and drugs, as well as couples separating until finally returning to God in repentance.

The nine groups were the Christ our Hope and Light Community; Disciples of Christ; Holy Family Filipino Catholic Group; Hong Kong Filipino Biblical Pastoral Ministry; Love of God; Legion of Mary; Sacred Heart of Jesus; Sons and Daughters of Divine Mercy; and Sto. Niño Filipino Crusaders Group.

Judging criteria covered choreography, costume, presentation and effort. The first place went to the Christ our Hope and Light Community, while second place went to the Love of God and the third place to the Holy Family Filipino Catholic Group.

The Christ the King community was organised in October 2007. It started with 20 members. According to Damuggo, the members come and go, but numbers have remained in the 20 to 21 range.

Every Sunday, the group has a mini praise and worship and sharing. It also joins the parish activities when they are on. As a group, it has bible sharing. Six times a year, it does its turn in the choir.

When the opportunity arises, it invites priests to spend time with them. On the fifth Sundays of the month or when there are no organised activities, the group enjoys an outing.

The day ended with a Mass and a special blessing was given by Father John Bapist Le Van Ba.
