Death Notice

Hong Kong (SE): Sister Elisabeth Marie Lee of the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres died at the age of 84 at St. Paul’s Hospital on 17 December 2016, after 64 years of religious life.

At the age of 17, she left Fuzhou, China, during the upheaval of 1949 and entered the congregation in Hong Kong.

Following her first profession she cared for orphans and boarders. Then in 1964, she began nursing studies in Macau and in 1969 was assigned to St. Teresa’s Hospital, Kowloon, where she would work up until her retirement.

Sister Lee has experienced health issues since 1959 and in 1969, underwent operations to remove part of her stomach, spleen and gall bladder.

Nevertheless, she continued her nursing with zeal, self-sacrifice and most of all, good humour.

She was caring, kind-hearted and loved by the nurses and hospital staff.

In 1994, she retired to St. Paul’s Convent. She prayed daily for St. Teresa’s and St. Paul’s Hospitals.

Sister Lee always thanked God for his blessings and seldom complained of her aches and pains.  She was well prepared to meet her Jesus.

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on 28 December 2016 at Christ the King Chapel, Causeway Bay, followed by a burial service at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Happy Valley.
