Epitome of fake news

WASHINGTON (SE): Fake news reached a new crescendo when a counsellor to the president of the United States of America, Kellyanne Conway, told Chris Matthews from MSNBC on February 2 about the Bowling Green Massacre, which she described as having been masterminded by two Iraqi refugees. Conway pointed out that this event had never been reported. “Most people don’t know that because it didn’t get covered,” Conway said in pushing Trump’s ban on travel from seven Muslim-majority nations. But The Washington Post reported that the Bowling Green Massacre didn’t get covered by the media because it didn’t happen. There has never been a terrorist attack in Bowling Green, which is in Kentucky, carried out by Iraqi refugees or anyone else. It initially appeared that Conway was referring to two Iraqi citizens living in Bowling Green, Warren County in Kentucky, who were arrested in 2011 and eventually sentenced to federal prison for attempting to send weapons and money to al-Qaeda. On February 3, Conway acknowledged her deception in a tweet. |
