Death Notice - Father Francis Wong Kin-kwok

Hong Kong (SE): Father Francis Wong Kin-kwok, from the Salesians of Don Bosco, died on April 24 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Causeway Bay surrounded by his relatives, confrérès, friends and parishioners. He had been a Salesian for 55 years and a priest for 36. He was 75-years-old.

Most of his life was spent working with young people as a teacher, school principal, counsellor and friend. Of the last five years, half were spent battling an incurable illness. He had been the parish priest of St. Anthony’s in Pokfulam.

His educational and pastoral service extended beyond Hong Kong. He was at Aberdeen Technical School from 1961 to 1976, then from 1983 to 1985; at Ng Siu Mui Technical School from 1980 to 1982; at Tang King Po School from 1986 to 1992, then he was off to Taiwan to the Tainan Salesian Technical School until 1999, followed by a stint on the mainland and finally back to Taiwan in 2009 to the Chaochou Boystown before returning to Hong Kong in 2012.

A regular contributor to Salesian publications and much-beloved by his readers, Father Wong made good use of the most up to date means of social communication to spread the gospel.

In his last, long illness, he was a model of joyful acceptance of God’s providential care. May his life-long witness continue to bear fruit in the lives of all who are blessed to have known him.

A Vigil Mass for Father Wong was celebrated at St. Anthony’s on May 2 and a funeral Mass at the same church on the following day.

He is buried at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Happy Valley. May he rest in peace!
