Don’t demonise the Muslim

COTABATO (SE): Officials of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao are appealing for help as thousands of displaced people continue to arrive in evacuation sites around the besieged city of Marawi in the southern Philippines.
As of June 2, the Crisis Management Committee in the region has recorded that at least 133,700 people from Marawi have sought refuge in evacuation centres.
The director of the Columbans in The Philippines, Father Paul Glynn, pointed out that welcoming the people on the run from violence is also a great experience in building positive relations between the Christian and Muslim populations, as the vast majority of the refugees are Muslim and pressure is on the mostly Christian cities of Iligan and Cotabato to welcome them.
The archbishop of Cotabato, Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, called on people not to demonise the Muslim population over the current crisis.
