Drive against plastic ocean

New York (SE): China has teamed up with The Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand to turn the tide against plastic waste dumped in oceans.

The four nations are considered to be the worst offenders in  the polluting of the oceans with plastic, but the four promised to cooperate in starting to clean up their act.

At a United Nations summit in New York on June 9, the secretary general, Antonio Guterres, said that if nothing is done, by 2050 plastic waste in the oceans will outweigh the entire mass of marine life.

Peter Cardinal Turkson told the gathering, “If these present trends continue, this century may well witness an unprecedented destruction of ecosystems, with serious consequences for all of us.”
