Cathedral visit a smash hit

HONG KONG (SE): The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians Siu Ming Secondary Catholic School in Kwai Chung brought a group of its secondary three students on a visit to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception as part of marking its 45th anniversary of foundation on October 6.
The students were given an orientation tour of the 130-year-old cathedral in the Mid-Levels of the Central district, which included an introduction its historical background and distinguished architecture, as well as a tour of the crypt where some of the treasures of the cathedral are stored.
Attention was given to the relic of Pope John Paul II at the shrine dedicated in his memory and the Shrine of the Chinese Martyrs, with their stained glass windows depicting some of the early missionaries who came into China.
The day out was judged a great success, as it gave the students a better understanding of the growth and spread of the faith in Hong Kong and China, as well as helping them to relate better to the Catholic faith environment in which they are receiving their education.
The school will continue taking groups to other Catholic sites of historical interest as a way of continuing its anniversary celebration.
