Hong Kong Jesuit for Asian provincial

HONG KONG (SE): Father Stephen Sau-yan Chow SJ has been appointed the next provincial of the Chinese Jesuit Province. He assumed office on January 1, succeeding Father John Lee Hua sj, who has served as the provincial for the last six years.
 
Father Chow comes from Hong Kong and is a seasoned educator. Before entering the Society of Jesus in 1984 in Dublin, Ireland, Father Chow had a bachelor’s degree in philosophical psychology and a master’s in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota in the United States of America.
 
Ordained in 1994, he obtained a master’s degree in in organisational development at Loyola University in Chicago, after which he was on the staff at Wah Yan College in Kowloon and Wan Chai from 1995 to 2000 as minister, ethics teacher, vocation director and chaplain.
 
He also served as school manager in both schools.
 
In 2000, he went to the Harvard University Graduate School of Education to study human development and psychology, completing his Doctorate in Education in 2006.
 
Prior to his appointment as provincial, Father Chow was on the formation team for Jesuit scholastics in Hong Kong. He will continue to hold the position of supervisor of the two Wah Yan Colleges and as the chairperson of the Chinese Province’s Education Commission.
