Farewell to faithful and generous missionary

HONG KONG (SE): Sister Maria Pizzagalli, of the Canossian Daughters of Charity, died peacefully in the Villa Bakhita Community on Caine Road, Hong Kong, on 23 January 2018, at the age of 89.
Born in Como, Milan, Italy on 29 April 1929, Sister Pizzagalli she joined the Canossians at the Missionary Novitiate of Vimercate, Milan, and made her first profession on 18 March 1955.
In 1957, she was sent to Hong Kong where she worked as assistant novice mistress, then from 1960 to 1976 she served the community in Caine Road in the sacristy and the sewing room. From 1976 to 1986, she was the superior of the community in Coloane in Macau, and later, of the Honeyville Canossian Retreat House in Pokfulam. She served with great zeal and generosity, especially showing concern for the most needy.
In 2010, poor health made it necessary for Sister Pizzagalli to retire to the Canossian Infirmary, where she offered sacrifices and prayers daily, and burned brightly in God’s love till the end of her life.
We praise and thank the Lord for the edifying example and faithfulness of Sister Pizzagalli’s beautiful life.
The Canossian Sisters thank readers and friends for their prayers for the repose of her soul. May she rest in peace.
