Salesian Sisters honour jubilarians

HONG KONG (SE): The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (the Salesian Sisters) in Hong Kong celebrated their Foundation Day on August 5 along with the silver and diamond jubilees of the religious profession of six of their sisters and the perpetual vow of another at St. Andrew’s parish, Tseung Kwan O.
Sister Anita Kwok and Sister Amy Lim celebrated their silver jubilees, while Sister Regina Hsu, Sister Rosa Leung, Sister Antonietta Yao and Sister Cecila Yip celebrated their diamond jubilees. Meanwhile Sister Domenica Weng made her perpetual vows.
Joseph Cardinal Zen Ze-kiun concelebrated the Mass with Salesian Father Ng Chi-yuen, the newly elected provincial superior of the Salesian province of China.
In his homily, Cardinal Zen pointed out that there are different kinds of vocations in Church and that the consecrated life meant a complete dedication to follow Jesus Christ through the the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience.
Before making her final commitment Sister Weng shared that, after a period of formation, she was determined to lead a consecrated life and dedicate her life to God.
In the presence of provincial superior, Sister Carolina Wu, and over 500 friends and relatives present during the ceremony, Sister Weng made her final profession and promised to dedicate her life to the service of the young people through the congregation.
Sister Wu later distributed oil lamps symbolising the fire of love and joy to the jubilarians.
She said she hoped that the lamps’ light would shine blessings on their daily contributions and remind them to trust God in joy.
Sister Weng expressed her gratitude to God for her vocation and the support of her family. She also thanked her superiors and the fellow sisters who had journeyed with her in her formation, and enabled her to bear witness to the unconditional love of God through her life.
She urged the young people present to bravely respond to the call of God.
St. Don Bosco founded the Congregation of Salesian Sisters in Italy in 1872 with the collaboration of St. Mary Mazzarello. It is present in over 90 countries around the world with a focus on young people living in poverty.
