Ordained to the diaconate

HONG KONG (SE): Diocesan seminarian, Timothy Yan Ho-fung, was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Caine Road, on October 27. 
Around 800 people attended the ordination Mass which was concelebrated by Bishop Yeung, John Cardinal Tong Hon, Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing, rector of the Holy Spirit Seminary, as well as a number of priests of the diocese. 
Bishop Yeung encouraged Deacon Yan to serve others in love, as he would serve God.
Deacon Yan was born in Hong Kong in 1982 and was baptised at St. Stephen’s Church, Kwai Chung. He first felt the call of vocation during World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany, in 2005. However, he continued with his studies at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and, after graduating in 2006, he worked in the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department. 
He eventually entered the Holy Spirit Seminary in 2008.
Deacon Yan will be ordained to the priesthood at a future date.
According to the 2018 edition of the Hong Kong Catholic Church Directory, there are currently 97 diocesan priests serving in various parishes of Hong Kong.
