Macau hosts music festival

HONG KONG (SE): With the joyful experiences of having successfully staged the Macau International Choir Festival over the past two years, the third edition of the Cantata Macau will be held from December 6 to 9. The event is co-organised by the parish choirs of the parish of the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady and St. Augustine’s parish with the blessings of the Diocese of Macau.
The Catholic Church has always been involved in the promotion of sacred music. Cantata Macau, a non-competitive international choir festival is a unique endeavour in an international choral scene that brings together artistic innovation, professional performance development and intercultural collaboration of different choirs from the world.
The music festival started three years ago with the intention of showing an alternative aspect of Macau, which is known to the world for its casinos. Paradoxically, the negative connotations of this do not sit well with the people of the city, who generally cherish their religious identity and enjoy what is holy. The Cantata Macau is an attempt to redeem this sublime past.
The event has been able attract highly-regarded choirs from the international circuit. And this year will feature over 400 vocalists of 15 choirs from eight different countries.
The event aims to recapture the Catholic spiritual patrimony of Macau and to highlight the city as a destination for spiritual and cultural pilgrimage.
The Cantata Macau features opening concert at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady at 7.00pm on December 6, and includes a Grand Concert in Cineteatro-Macau at 8.00pm on December 8. The cathedral will also host the Post-Mass Choral night at 8.00pm on December 7 and a closing ceremony at 2.30pm on December 9.
