Three deacons ordained in Shaanxi

 YAN’AN (Agencies): Three men were ordained deacons by Bishop Giovanni Battista Yang Xialting in Yan’An, Shaanxi province, on August 30, Fides reports. The Rome-based agency describes the diocese of Yan’An as being full of pastoral and missionary enthusiasm.
Yan’an covers an area of 80,000 square kilometres in north Shaanxi and has a Catholic population of about 50,000, with 10 seminarians and a 24 religious women belonging to the two congregations of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of China and the Missionaries of Mary.
It has 20 churches and about 20 other places of worship, three rural health clinics and a Catholic elementary school.
The current bishop is 46-years-old and received is episcopal ordination on 15 July 2010, but did not take office until March 25 this year. 
He has a papal mandate, as well as the permission of the local authorities to act as bishop.
