Columbans mark a century on mission

HONG KONG (SE): The centennial celebration of the official recognition of the Missionary Society of St. Columban by Pope Benedict XV on 29 June 1918 marks the placing of the official stamp of approval on a movement that began in 1912, when a young priest accepted an invitation from Canadian Father John Fraser to join him in China.

Book launch to mark Columban centenary

HONG KONG (SE): With the launching of Columban Missionaries in Hong Kong, a new book authored by Father Joseph Houston, the Missionary Society of Saint Columban kick-started its centenary celebrations during a special reception held at the Irish Consulate in Central on March 15.

Priest named in damages suit by Korean Navy

SEOUL (SE): Father Pat Cunningham has been named in a suit filed with the Seoul Central Court by the Korean Navy on March 28 seeking compensation for damages and delay to construction work on the controversial Jeju Naval Base.

The Columban missionary, who has been deeply involved in opposition to the base, is named along with villagers and rights advocates, as well as the Gangjeong Village Association and five other groups.
