New PIME regional leaders

HONG KONG (SE): The Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) in Hong Kong, announced the re-election of Father Giorgio Pasini (施永泰) as regional superior and Father Renzo Milanese as vice-regional superior.
 
Father Milanese, together with Father Franco Bellati (范子峰), Father Augustine Zaw Aung (容思定) and Father Manohar Jyothi (文凱華), were also chosen to serve as councillors. The term will be for four years.

Remembering early missionaries in Sai Kung

HONG KONG (SE): The Diocesan Working Committee for Following Thy Way held a seminar, co-organised with the Centre for Catholic Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, on early Catholic missionary work in Sai Kung, at the university on February 2. 
 
The committee pointed out that early missionaries not only spread the gospel, but also helped residents of the area with their livelihood problems.

Final farewell to PIME missionary

HONG KONG (SE): Father Luciano Lazzeri of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), died on June 11 at the PIME Rest House in Lecco, Italy.
 
Born in 1940 in a mountainous village in northern Italy, near the Swiss border know to be rich in vocations, Father Lazzeri completed his secondary education at the seminary of the Diocese of Como before joining the PIME Institute. 
 
He was ordained a priest in 1964 and spent a few years teaching in the institute’s minor seminaries.

Farewell to the missionary of print media

Milan (AsiaNews): A great media missionary of the 20th century, Father Piero Gheddo, of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), died on December 20 in Cesano Boscone, near Milan. The missionary of print media, as he was fondly known across the world, was 89-years-old and had worked all his life in the world of communications to spread the gospel.

An unassuming yet brilliant missionary

LECCO (SE): A long-time missionary to Hong Kong, Italian-born Father Fernando Galbiati, from the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (pime), lost his battle with cancer on February 18.

Born on 14 November 1932 in the Bussero district of Milan, Father Galbiati was the superior general of pime during a highly productive time of growth, which sadly also saw great tragedies between 1983 and 1989.

Unsung hero feted at golden jublilee

HONG KONG (SE): Father Giosuè Bonzi, of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions, celebrated the 50th anniversary of his priesthood at Mother of Good Counsel parish, San Po Kong, on May 7.

Former priest released

MANILA (AsiaNews): A former priest, Rolando del Tochio, who was kidnapped on October 6 last year from Ur Choice Café in Dipolog in the southern Philippines, was released on April 8.

Father Giovanni Re, from the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions, said, “We are very happy for the release of Rolando del Torchio.”
