An ecumenical accord in Hong Kong

HONG KONG (UCAN): The Catholic diocese and Lutheran Church in Hong Kong jointly endorsed a common Chinese translation of From Conflict to Communion, an ecumenical document marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
 
The document was signed during a prayer gathering at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral on July 14.
 
The ceremony was presided over by the bishop of Hong Kong, John Cardinal Tong Hon, and the coadjutor of the diocese, Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung, on behalf of the Catholic diocese.

Over the moon with new president

SEOUL (UCAN): Seoul is over the moon with what was termed a landslide victory for presidential candidate Moon Jae-in, from the Democratic Party of Korea.
 
Moon gleaned 41 per cent of the popular vote, while his nearest rival, the conservative Hong Jun-pyo, could only muster 24 per cent and what was described as the centrist candidate, Ahn Cheol-soo, just 21 per cent.

Lutherans and Catholics prepare to mark Reformation anniversary

HONG KONG (SE): As part of preparations to mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation next year, representatives from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong paid a formal visit to the Catholic diocese on April 5.

The visit was to promote mutual understanding between the two Churches. Representatives from both expressed the belief that the visit would be helpful in promoting ecumenism among Christians in the city.
