HONG KONG (SE): A celebration of the 50th year of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal was held at the hall of the Sing Yin Secondary School in Clearwater Bay Road, Kowloon, on August 13. 
 
Around 1,000 people from the Chinese- and English-speaking charismatic communities gathered for the occasion.
 
The Chinese-speaking community ran a songs of praise session prior to a worship session led by Jing Mendoza, from the Loved Flock Charismatic Community.

Golden anniversary for Charismatic Renewal

ROME (SE): Some 50,000 people gathered in Rome around the feast of Pentecost from May 31 to June 4 to celebrate the golden anniversary of the worldwide Charismatic Renewal Movement.
 
The five-day event was book-ended by Pope Francis, who attended a general audience on the first day and celebrated the final Mass in St. Peter’s Square on Pentecost Sunday.

A golden anniversary eyes golden marriages

HONG KONG (SE): The Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council celebrated its 50th anniversary on November 18 in combination with its annual general meeting.

The chairperson of the council, Joseph Lee King-chi, shared about its newly-launched marriage formation programme for couples who have hit what is referred to as the third age.

Beijing silent but Catholics talk on Cultural Revolution anniversary

HONG KONG (SE): In the run up to the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the Cultural Revolution by the then-all-powerful chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong, Beijing not only remained quiet, but furtively silent.

A 10-year period of tumult that saw almost two million people perish, with over one million categorised as traitors and imprisoned or committing suicide, was declared just 50 years ago on 16 May 1966.
