Italy marks Day of Prayer for China

NAPLES (SE): The Chinese community in Italy has planned a gathering to mark the May 24 World Day of Prayer for the Church in China, which is scheduled to be held in Naples on the previous Sunday, May 21.
 
Fides reported that the group will gather at the parish of St. Mary of Constantinople at the Museum and people will travel from all over Italy to take part in the day of prayer, which is held annually on the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians.

Now is the right time for outreach in China

MACAU (AsiaNews): Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-sang put a new twist on the annual Day of Prayer for the Church in China in Macau, when he called on the whole of his diocese to come to the cathedral to join in a prayer vigil on May 24.

In previous years, gatherings have been held in individual parish churches, but in his first year as bishop of the diocese, Bishop Lee asked everyone to come together and prayer as one voice.

China marks Day of Prayer at Sheshan

SHANGHAI (AsiaNews): Thousands of people descended on the Shrine of Our Lady of Sheshan on the outskirts of Shanghai on May 24, the feast day of Our Lady Help of Christians, which is also regarded as the feast of Our Lady of Sheshan.

While the shrine has always been a popular place for pilgrimage, it has taken on a new significance since Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed the day as the World Day of Prayer for the Church in China in 2007.

Eleven ordained priests on Day of Prayer for China

BEIJING (AsiaNews): As Churches around the world prayed for the Church in China on the feast of Our Lady of Sheshan on May 24, also celebrated as Our Lady Help of Christians in most parts of the world,  people in Kunming, Chongqing and Xinjiang rejoiced at the ordination of 11 deacons as priests.

However, the joy was somewhat tempered, as nine of the 11 were ordained by Bishop Joseph Ma Yinglin, from Kunming, who was himself ordained a bishop without a mandate from the pope.

Day of prayer for China

HONG KONG (SE): May 24, the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, is also a day on which the worldwide Church is asked to pray especially for the Church in China.

Pope Francis asked people gathered for his angelus address on May 22 to spiritually unite themselves with the Catholic people of China on that day and pray that they may be able to promote an authentic culture of encounter and harmony in society.
