Forgiving enemies is not so easy

KRAKOW (SE): “I asked Jesus for the grace to forgive every time I pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet. But instead of praying ‘For the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world,’ I pray ‘have mercy on the Islamic State and on the whole world’,” Christina Shabo, who was born under a tree in a refugee camp after her family fled the bombing in Iraq in 1991, said in a testimony on July 29 at World Youth Day in Krakow.

KRAKÓW (SE): As over one million people pressed around the altar set up at Campus Misericordiae (Field of Mercy) for the closing Mass of World Youth Day on July 31, in stark contrast to the opening Mass on July 26 the sun shone its warmth on the grassy field and the heavens smiled on the cherished memories held in each heart.

Adventures in Poland prior to World Youth Day

HONG KONG (SE): The Hong Kong diocesan delegation to the World Youth Day took part in a variety of preparation activities prior to take off after being commissioned by John Cardinal Tong Hon at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on July 10.

The delegation gathered on July 15 at Chek Lap Kok Airport for a blessing ceremony immediately prior to departure for Poland.

Pope’s message to Youth Day

VATICAN (SE): In greeting the estimated two million delegates to the 31st World Youth Day as they were gathering in Poland, Pope Francis said he is praying that their trip may be safe and that the hopes and expectations that they bring with them will be fulfilled.

Bishop commissions 500 for World Youth Day

HONG KONG (SE): People who have signed up to attend World Youth Day in Kraków, Poland, from July 26 to 31, were commissioned by John Cardinal Tong Hon in a ceremony held at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on July 10.

Cardinal Tong said during the ceremony that he hopes that the young people making the trip will be able to have an encounter with God during their pilgrimage and come back to Hong Kong imbued with the enthusiasm to spread the good news of Jesus Christ in society.

Pope set for World Youth Day

VATICAN (SE): Pope Francis is set for his visit to Poland during the upcoming World Youth Day that is to take place in Krakow from July 25 to 31.

He will fly into Krakow on July 27 and, after the usual round of meetings with civic authorities and the diplomatic corps, visit the president of Poland and the bishops.
