St. Vincent de Paul Society celebrates 155th anniversary

HONG KONG (SE): The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which has the longest history of a charity organisation in the Church in Hong Kong, has a tough mission, which is also a blessing, Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing, auxiliary bishop of Hong Kong, said, when he celebrated a Mass to mark the 155th anniversary of the society’s Central Council of Hong Kong and the feast day of its patron, St. Vincent de Paul, on September 27 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Caine Road.

St. Vincent de Paul rolls up its sleeves

HONG KONG (SE): The St. Vincent de Paul Central Council of Hong Kong marked the feast day of its patron on September 27 with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung and Father Dominic Chan Chi-ming at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception followed by the society’s annual general meeting and dinner in the Caritas Community Hall.
 
The main topic under discussion at the gathering was the society’s outreach to refugee people in the city and the work it is doing among the most deprived members of society.

Meal of Love a welcome for torture claimants

HONG KONG (UCAN): Every two months people from the parish of Ss. Peter and Paul at Yuen Long gather together with a group of torture claimants for a shared at the high school campus that adjoins the church compound.

Hosted by the parish and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, what has been dubbed the Meal of Love is intended to break down the barriers that exist between Hong Kong locals and those seeking refuge in the city, who mostly come from southeast Asia and Africa.
