Chinese priests greet Pope Francis at general audience

VATICAN (SE): Pope Francis welcomed 26 Chinese priests to a general papal audience in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican on April 25
 
They had been attending a spring session organised by the Verbiest Institute KU Leuven (Belgium), UCAN reported on April 26.
 
A priest from Inner Mongolia presented the pope with a chasuble made by Catholics from the autonomous region.

Importance of separation of Church and state

LEUVEN (SE): “The frenzied part of the 20th century had nothing to do with religion,” Herman van Rompuy, a former president of the European Council, told a forum at the Verbiest Institute at the Leuven Catholic University in Belgium on September 6.

“Nationalism and ideology were responsible for wars, genocide and cruelty,” van Rompuy continued in explaining why the current formation of the European Union is so valuable.

Pastoral course for Chinese in Belgium

LEUVEN (SE): A group of 30 Chinese priests, lay people and religious attended an eight-week summer course organised by the Verbiest Institute in Belgium at the Catholic University in Leuven.

All 30 took part in a programme that included segments on pastoral catechesis, social ethics, counselling and spirituality from both the eastern and western traditions.
