A jeepney run on flower power

MANILA (SE): The colourful, iconic trademark of Philippine transport, the humble jeepney could be reaching the end of its long road, as the Department of Transportation and Communications has announced plans to phase it out in favour of a more modern people-mover network.

But apart from easing road congestion, a major attraction for foreign adventurers will be removed, as a ride on a jeepney is a must for having more fun in The Philippines. But labour leaders are pointing to widespread human collateral damage.

Save lives donate blood

The Philippine Consulate General to Hong Kong organised an annual blood donation drive, Dugong Alay ng Pilipino (Blood offering as a Filipino) with the Hong Kong Red Cross on August 14. I voluntarily went and visited the Causeway Bay Donor Centre of the group.

A number of Filipino organisations and individual donors from various nationalities, such as Indonesians, Chinese and local residents took part in the one-day donation campaign.

First impressions grow in the soul

HONG KONG (SE): “They say that a picture is worth 1,000 words and if that is so, then I have brought 60,000 words with me today,” Joni Gutierrez said in introducing his exhibition of photographs and videos on impressions of Hong Kong from the point of view of a new arrival at the Philippine Consulate General on September 4.
