Enough is never enough

When Matthew writes to a despondent community disappointed that the second coming of the Lord had not happened as they expected, he repurposes the original story that Jesus had addressed to Israel to sooth the despair of the glum and disappointed Christians.

Laging Handa sa Pagdating ni Hesus!

Narito na ang lalaking ikakasal! Salubungin ninyo!’ Agad nagbangon ang sampung dalaga at inayos ang kanilang mga ilawan.”
 
Sa ating ebanghelyo ipinahiwatig ang pagdating ng Panginoon. Walang nakakaalam sa kanyang muling pagbabalik sa mundong ito. At dahil walang nakakaalam sa kanyang pagbabalik, dapat maging handa tayo. Paano ba natin ihanda ang ating sarili sa pagbabalik ni Hesus?

We live only one eternal life

The first reading speaks of seven brothers. They had an imperfect concept of the resurrection. They imagined it as an extension of the life of this world, nothing more. 

The Pharisees, who firmly professed faith in the resurrection of the dead, continued to interpret it in a rather crude way.
