Asian bishops make refugee crisis a priority

DHAKA (UCAN): An international seminar held in Bangladesh, organised by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC), focused on migrants, refugees, displaced persons, human trafficking and renewable energy options in Asia.
 
The February 11 to 17 conference drew about 50 participants including Patrick Cardinal D’Rozario of Dhaka, nine archbishops and bishops, 14 priests, nuns and laypeople from 11 Asian countries.

Bishops reflect vast and varied conditions of Church in Asia

COLOMBO (SE): The more than 140 bishops that came together for a plenary meeting around the theme of family life with officials from the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from November 28 to December 4, showed the great diversity in makeup, experience and situation of the Church in Asia.

Common search for religious harmony

 

JAKARTA (UCAN): More than 100 representatives from 16 Asian countries attended the Fourth Conference of Muslim-Christian Religious Leaders of Asia in Jakarta, Indonesia, beginning on February 25.

“Bringing Common Word to Common Action is our theme now. In order to bring common word to common action, we must overcome and solve many problems—religious, political and social,” Hasyim Muzadi, the secretary-general of the International Conference of Islamic Scholars, said.

Asian bishops gathered in Vietnam warmly welcomed by government

 

HONG KONG (SE) : One hundred delegates, including 71 bishops from 22 countries in Asia, gathered at Xuan Loc, to the east of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, on December 10 for the delayed Tenth Plenary Assembly of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) at which the 40th anniversary of its foundation was marked, under the theme, FABC after 40 years: Responding to the challenges of Asia.
