Duterte’s apology too late

HONG KONG (SE): The president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, who was in Hong Kong for the second time in 10 months, apologised to the Chinese people on April 12 for the Manila bus hijack hostage tragedy in 2010 in which eight Hong Kong tourists were killed during the botched rescue attempt.

Twinning of young people

HONG KONG (SE): Around 25 young people from Hong Kong’s twin diocese in Germany paid a visit to Hong Kong between August 17 and 21 to promote the friendship that has existed between Hong Kong and Essen since the early 1950s.
 
The group visited the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on August 18 and met for a discussion with Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung.

Basic pastoral challenge for our Church

HONG KONG (SE): Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, the secretary general of the Synod of Bishops, described the somewhat controversial document produced by Pope Francis at the conclusion of the Synod on the Family, which ran over two sessions in 2015 and 2016, as a guide to pastoral approach rather than a dissertation on doctrine.
