Tens of thousands march to protest against extradition bill

HONG KONG (SE): Around 130,000 people joined a rally on April 28, organised by the Civil Human Rights Front, to express their opposition the proposed extradition law which they believe will undermine the right of Hong Kong people to a fair trial and jeopardise the principle of One Country, Two Systems. Organisers of the rally said the turnout was 130,000. |

Twenty-one years after the handover

THIS JULY 1 we mark the 21st anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty. However for many, the recent state of affairs may seem depressing. In addition to the long-running housing problem and the recent spate of scandals involving shoddy work at various MTR projects, there is no sign of improved services for the elderly, or of the retirement protection schemes that have been discussed for many years. |

Face challenges with faith commission urges

HONG KONG (SE): In the run-up to the 20th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong, Christians have been urged to care for marginalised people and value the formation of young people.
In a statement published in Kung Kao Po on June 18, the Justice and Peace Commission said that Hong Kong people have been facing increasingly tough situations since the handover, which makes it all the more imperative for Christians in Hong Kong cling to their faith and Catholic social teaching.
