PANAMA CITY (CNS): “Are you willing to be an influencer like Mary, who dared to say, ‘Let it be done’?” Pope Francis asked the hundreds of thousands of young men and women who had made their way to St. John Paul II Park, for the evening prayer vigil on January 26, preceding the penultimate, closing Mass at 8.00am the next morning.

Praying for peace and unity at World Youth Day

SEOUL (SE): Young people from South Korea who were in Panama for the 16th World Youth Day held from January 22 to 27, gathered at Christo Rey Church to offer a holy hour, praying for peace and the unification of Korea on January 26. They were joined by Andrew Cardinal Yeom Soo-jung and Auxiliary Bishop Peter Chung Soon-taek of Seoul.

Hong Kong’s young people challenged to step out of comfort zones

“World Youth Day is an experience of the Body of Christ,” Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing, the auxiliary bishop of Hong Kong, told the over 300 young people gathered for the closing bilingual Mass of Hong Kong’s parallel event for World Youth Day 2019, on the evening of January 26, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Caine Road.

Build culture of encounter pope exhorts at World Youth Day

PANAMA CITY (CNS): “By your actions and your approach, your way of looking at things, your desires and above all your sensitivity, you discredit and defuse the kind of talk that is intent on sowing division, on excluding or rejecting those who are not ‘like us’,” Pope Francis told the throng of young people on January 24 during the official ceremony welcoming him to World Youth Day in Panama.

Panama opens its doors to young people

VATICAN (CNS): As World Youth Day (WYD) in Panama draws near, organisers said they are prepared to make young people from around the globe feel right at home.
 
While warm temperatures will greet thousands of young people in Panama, Father Romero Aguilar, WYD general coordinator, said he hopes that the warmth of hospitality also will make them feel welcome.

Take up World Youth Day challenge pope urges young people

VATICAN (CNS): “Do not allow the spark of youth to be extinguished in the darkness of a closed room in which the only window to the outside world is a computer and smartphone,” the pope told young people in his annual message for local celebrations of World Youth Day. Many dioceses will have their own celebrations on Palm Sunday, March 25.
 
The pope encouraged them to break free from fear, fake online personas and looking at the world through a digital screen display.
