Unite in helping needy says message for Diwali

VATICAN (UCAN): Christians and Hindus are bound by their belief in human dignity and share a responsibility to help those in need, Bishop Miguel Ayuso Guixot, the secretary of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, said in a written message to the world’s 1.1 billion Hindus on October 1, in advance of the three-day festival of Diwali which begins on November 7 in most parts of the world, focuses on the victory of truth over lies, light over darkness, life over death and good over evil.

Japan’s religious call for world peace

KYOTO (UCAN): Religious leaders have met in Japan to pray for peace in the world and as a response to Pope Francis asking them to foster dialogue, friendship and peace.
 
Representatives of Buddhism, Shintoism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Zoroastrianism came together in Japan at an interfaith Interreligious Gathering of Prayer for World Peace held from August 3 to 4 at Mount Hiei near Kyoto.
