A vocation camp Salesian style

On August 3, I joined the Salesian vocation director, Father Carlos Cheung Sam-yiu, together with two young Salesians and two other aspirants on the Salesian Hong Kong-Macau Joint Vocation Camp.
 
Organised by the vocation offices of Hong Kong and Macau region, a total of 20 young people attended the summer gathering in Macau, which ran under the theme Love and Service.

Salesians celebrate anniversaries

HONG KONG (SE): The Society of St. Francis de Sales, more commonly known as the Salesians of Don Bosco, celebrated the 201st anniversary of the birth of its founder, St. John Bosco, on August 16.

Sixteen priests and sisters from the Salesian family also marked the anniversaries of their vows and ordinations, and Anthony Pun Ming-chi, a seminarian, took his perpetual vows.

Kidnapped priest alive and well

ADEN (SE): The Indian-born Salesian Father Tom Uzhunnalli, who was kidnapped in Aden, Yemen, during a raid on the compound of the Missionaries of Charity on March 4, is reported to be alive and well.

AsiaNews reported that efforts are underway to secure his release from the Islamic militants who killed four Missionaries of Charity in the raid on a nursing home.

Salesian set for final profession

HONG KONG (SE): In the Salesian world, August 16 is the birthday of the congregation’s founder, St. John Bosco. On that day this year, at 5:00pm in the parish of Mary Help of Christians (inside Tang King Po School), Carlos Cheung SDB will make his perpetual profession.

The Eucharist will be presided over by the bishop of Hong Kong, John Cardinal Tong Hon, and the provincial of the Salesians will receive the perpetual vows in the name of the rector major.
