Don’t use violence or spill blood but share life say Philippine bishops

MANILA (UCAN): “Today, many follow the ‘kings’ who use violence, arms and intimidation, but are without any understanding and oneness with the weak,” Luis Cardinal Tagle, the archbishop of Manila, said during Passion Sunday celebrations to start Holy Week in the Philippines.
 
In his homily during an early-morning Mass for the blessing of the palms, the cardinal poured scorn on leaders who are “full of cockiness and devoid of humility.”

Passion Sunday: Jesus is a man not a superman

Mark presents a Jesus who is not rebelling against the events that he cannot impede, almost passively accepting what is happening to him and that, in the end, he concludes: “But let the scriptures be fulfilled” (Mark 14:49).

Passion Sunday: Hari sa Krus!

Ang Linggo ng Palaspas ay hudyat ng pagsisimula natin sa mga Mahal na Araw. Ito ang mga araw na tayo ay magninilay sa pagpapakasakit at pagtanggap ni Hesus ng kanyang misyon, ang pagpapako sa krus para sa ating kaligtasan.
 
Sa simula ng Banal na Misa ay ating sinariwa ang pagpasok ni Hesus sa lungsod ng Jerusalem. Sa kanyang pagpasok marami sa mga tao na nagbibigay pugay sa kanya.

Philippines on alert for Holy Week terror attacks

MANILA (UCAN): Philippine authorities have warned of possible terrorist attacks following reports of a new leader, Abu Dar, taking the reins of the so-called Islamic State group in the region.
 
Security officials said the new leader of the terrorist group in Southeast Asia, has the capability, resources and connections to carry out attacks.
 
Philippine military spokesperson, Brigadier General Bienvenido Datuin, said authorities are closely monitoring Manila to ensure that terrorism does not strike there.
